iMatte, Inc. emerged in mid-2000 to take advantage of  technologies that empower communicators in a far more effective manner than ever before.


iMatte's strong roots and foundation is the award-winning technology company, Ultimatte Corp., the world's recognized leader in sophisticated matte extraction and compositing tools for the film, video and graphics communities. Founded by Petro and Paul Vlahos in 1976, Ultimatte provides real-time hardware and computer software products, allowing industry specialists the ability to create completely seamless film effects in motion pictures and virtual studios for broadcasters.  


The industry has recognized the achievements made by Ultimatte, its Founders and team members with various awards, including:

  1. Oscar® in 1964 for Blue Screen Compositing Technology and the Sodium Vapor Light Matte Extraction Technology (used at Disney); second Oscar® in 1995 for Ultimatte's first software product, Cinefusion

  2. Television Emmy in 1978 for Ultimatte Compositing Technology

  3. Oscar® Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994 - Presented to Petro Vlahos from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Paul Vlahos realized the potential of taking the technologies he helped to develop at Ultimatte and enhance them for the digital and e-commerce age. His vision energized key associates at Ultimatte to join him in the establishment of iMatte to undertake this new direction.


iMatte is developing immersive presentation technologies that easily enable the presenter to interact directly with the graphics and collaborating presenters to create more compelling learning experiences.

Paul Vlahos, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer

Founded Ultimatte Corp. in 1976 and continues as CEO.  Founded iMatte Inc. in 2000 and serves as CEO.  Inventions over the years have resulted in over twenty patents. Besides the Ultimatte matting devices used in the broadcast industry Paul pioneered the Virtual Studio in 1989.  In 1993 Paul revolutionized the motion picture industry with the first software to win an Oscar. The KnockOut matte extraction software changed the print graphics industry in 1999.  This year iMatte will introduce Sightdeck, a unique production, distance collaboration display system, at NAB.


Joe Parker, President, Board Director

Joe is responsible for the implementation and execution of the company's plan, and leads its day-to-day operation. Working closely with Paul for almost 15 years, Joe is experienced in building and leading companies that develop and license new technology. Prior to iMatte and Ultimatte, Joe ran his own consulting business and was a founder and VP Engineering at Interactive Motion Control.


Alan Arpag Dadourian, Vice President - Research and Development

Arpag is responsible for the initial concept research leading to the development of patent-protected algorithms, the drafting and maintenance of iMatte's patents, technical support in discussions with potential technology partners and oversight of all technology-related documentation. During his 22-year tenure at Ultimatte/iMatte, Arpag has invented or co-invented four issued U.S. patents and has four U.S. patents pending.


Larry Uichanco, Vice President - Technology Development

Larry heads the design team which works closely with R&D to design, build and test integrated hardware/software reference designs for iMatte's patented technology. He is also responsible for the technical support of technology licensees. Prior to his 4 years at iMatte, Larry was Director of Engineering at Ultimatte for 13 years. Larry has also held engineering positions at Teradyne Inc, TRW, ITT Federal Electric Corp, and GenRad Inc.


Steven K. Chen, Board Director

Steven is a business attorney, with experience in investment, project promotions and cross-border transactions. Mr. Chen is also founder and president of Triangle Group, an advisory and investment concern which helps clients develop new business opportunities, especially in the international scene.Mr. Chen currently sits on the board of a number of privately held Companies, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese.


Robert Mullen, Board Director

Bob is a founding partner of CORTAC Group. He has over 25 years experience as a systems engineer, subcontract manager, program manager, and proposal manager for a variety of DoD, commercial, and international programs. Bob combines innovative strategic thinking with an ability to quickly integrate with large teams to drive significant performance improvements. He has led major program reviews that had successful $100M award fees and led winning multi-billion dollar proposal teams for four different capture opportunities. His experience includes rotary-wing defensive avionics systems, C4-ISR systems, ERP Systems, a variety of military communications satellites and system architectures.


Samuel Black, M.D., Board Director

Dr. Black is a psychiatrist in private practice in Los Angeles, California.  His education includes: a BA in Zoology from the University of California, Riverside, a Medical Degree from the USC School of Medicine, and an Executive MBA from the UCLA School of Business.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and served as a Major in the Medical Corps, U.S. Army.  Professional appointments include: Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and the UCLA School of Medicine.  Dr. Black's practice includes care of patients and medical legal consultation.
